a small cavity in rock lined with crystals or other mineral matter.

Geodes are hollow, vaguely spherical rocks, in which masses of mineral matter (which may include crystals) are secluded. The crystals are formed by the filling of vesicles in volcanic and sub-volcanic rocks by minerals deposited from hydrothermal fluids; or by the dissolution of syn-genetic concretions & partial filling by the same, or other, minerals precipitated from water, groundwater or hydrothermal fluids...'

HEALINGS:
'Many see geodes as a feminine property due to the cavity which could represent the womb. Geodes can help communicate with divine beings & assist in creating better moods, balances, & energies that can help with meditation, stress, & decision-making.'

BREAKING:

•Put on safety glasses before attempting to open a geode
•Put the geode in a sock and set on the ground.
•Take a small Chisel & a rock hammer (preferably not a construction hammer, such as a claw hammer) Place chisel in center & strike the top center of the geode. A couple of strikes might be required to fully crack open this rock. This is likely to result in the geode fragmenting into more than two pieces, but it is the most suitable method for kids, though not recommended for particularly valuable/rare geodes.
OR
Set the geode on the concrete, place the chisel in the middle, & tap it very gently a few times with the hammer. Turn the geode a quarter turn and do this again. Carefully, continue scoring along the circumference of the geode until you see a crack form all the way around, then pull the two halves apart.
